Everybody wants to be healthy, but what would it feel like to be in vibrant health? Our American health care system is based primarily on treating disease… but vibrant health goes way beyond the absence of illness.
Vibrant health is a state of mind. It involves loving yourself enough to provide your body with optimal care and nurturing. It means being mindful of what you put in your body, discovering the joy of movement, and treating yourself to the gift of luxurious sleep.
Cultivating vibrant health is a personal journey. We invite you to take a few minutes to think about what vibrant health means to you. You might want to complete the following sentences:
- Vibrant health would mean having the energy to…
- Vibrant health would mean having the strength to…
- Vibrant health would mean having the stamina to…
- Vibrant health would mean having the flexibility to…
- In a state of vibrant health, I would feel…
- In a state of vibrant health, I would be…
- In a state of vibrant health, I would do…
- In a state of vibrant health, I would look…
For example, to me, vibrant health would be having the energy to work all day and dance all night. It would mean having the strength to finally do my first push-up. It would mean having the flexibility to do the full locust pose in yoga, and the balance to maintain the tree pose effortlessly.
In a state of vibrant health, I would feel strong and confident. I would look radiant and attractive, and would be free from stress and worry. I would be able to work all day and still have the energy to go dancing, cycling or to yoga class. I wouldn’t be afraid to try new activities, like Nia, that require stamina and endurance.
Now it it your turn. Take the time to envision your picture of vibrant health. The clearer your vision, the more likely you are to achieve it.
In the pages that follow, we are going to lead you through some simple lifestyle changes that will put you on the path to being “healthy for life.” But first, we want to share with you some scary statistics about the state of our national health.
